First, I did not snap this picture today. It does seem appropriate after the weekend our neighborhood experienced, though. God’s power was on full display, as the “pressure cooker” of over 100 degree temperatures and unbearable humidity finally literally blew up. With very little rain on Saturday, a seventy-mile-per hour wind blasted through, rippling roofs, uprooting and fracturing trees, and knocking down power lines.
Sunday, as dedicated crews toiled to repair the damage, residents filled churches, restaurants and gyms, spending more time than usual just “hanging out” in safety and comfort.
Today, my bible study led me to Lamentations, where Jeremiah lists and expounds on the miseries of life. I sympathized, recognizing many of my own aches, pains and discomforts. Then in the third chapter, the scriptures take a turn.
Verse 4: “This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope.” In verse 22,-24 he explains: “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is thy portion says my soul, therefore I will hope in Him.” KJV
A popular saying sums it up well “If He brings us to it, He’ll bring us through it!” God is good, all the time.
