Where exactly is home, and why is it so important to find your place in the world? This is a central question for Mylze Moore, the main character in Rebecca Meek’s new book, Summer at Caroling Creek. True confession, I have seen part of this story when it was entered in a contest sponsored by Scrivenings Press. I was so excited to read the entire story, especially since I love reading and writing contemporary romances.
Though the male protagonist of the story does play a big part in Mylze’s journey, the book deals with so many real feelings beyond romance. The guilt and regret that accompanies grief play a big part, along with the feelings of inadequacy Mylze gets from her sister. When their aunt’s house at the lake is left to them, it comes with strings attached, and more than one unfinished remodeling project. Tackling the challenges presented by the provisions of the will cause Mylze to discover new things about herself, and convert her from a life of wandering and looking for excitement to recognizing the value of being grounded and happy at home.
An excellent first effort. I am very encouraged to see that the cover says “A Caroling Creek Novel”, and can’t wait for another!
