Our nation has a very big birthday coming up. Two hundred and fifty years of a grand experiment. The United States was founded on the idea that its citizens deserved a chance to decide their own destiny. After fighting to establish their own government, they adopted a set of rules that formed the basis of the laws that remain until the present day, our Constitution. Along with amendments that have been added, the people we choose to formulate and enforce our laws refer constantly to this document. It provides a foundation for our country.
In today’s world, there is constant controversy. People are always arguing about right and wrong. Social media distorts facts both intentionally and accidentally. We seem to always be searching for truth, for someone we can trust. Many decide that they can determine their own truth, and this governs the way they choose to live their lives. With no moral authority, they justify sin and bad behavior by saying they are no more wrong or right than anyone else.
Jesus said ” I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6. NKJV We are blessed to have a book containing the inspired words of God and the struggles of His people. We can read how everything pointed to God’s son, and His desire to save us from sin. The Holy Bible provides a firm basis for our lives. I have resolved to spend more time studying it, using it as my authority, my guide. Paul’s second letter to Timothy advises him this way: “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from who you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” Second Timothy 3: 14-15 NKJV.
As we recall the way our country was founded, let us also return to the truth of God’s word. He loves us, and sent us the Bible specifically to share his truth. We are blessed.
