Our God is truly wondrous. His creation constantly amazes me.
When we stood in awe in front of this glacier during our vacation, the overwhelming mood on the ship was Silence.
“The Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” Habakuk 2:20 NIV
This massive mountain of ice can only be witnessed by humans from the water in Glacier Bay The surrounding rocks and mountains are inhabited only by eagles, mountain goats, and possibly a bear who spends his time on the waterfront catching fish. My husband and I stood on the balcony of our tiny stateroom, bundled up in coats, hats and gloves, simply absorbing the beauty of this remarkable experience.
How small I felt, in the larger scheme of things. How incredible that the Creator of this marvelous view still cares enough about me to make His home in my heart. I was prompted to spend more time praising, more time thanking Him for His overwhelming grace.
Occasionally, we heard an echoing thunder rumbling through the mountains while we watched. The Park Ranger who served as our tour guide told us during his narration from the bow of the ship that when we heard that sound, we had already missed witnessing a chunk of ice falling from the glacier. Called glacial “calving” , this is a natural process caused by the constant movement as the glaciers move from their origin between the mountains to the water at the base. Because of increasing climate changes, though, it happens more frequently now than in times past.
My suggestion, start saving your money now to see a glacier live and in person. I can think of no better spot in the world to recognize and celebrate the magnificent glory of God.
