Today’s interview is very special. We get a chance to meet the youngest brother of the Billings family, famous in his community for his courage. Let’s see what he has to tell us about his life after his bull-riding days.
Jenny: “Hello. Thanks so much for stopping by today. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?”
Cody “How’s it goin? I’m Cody Billings. My family owns a pickup truck dealership and also a cattle ranch in Arkansas.”
Jenny: “So, what’s happening in your life? Anything new and exciting?”
Cody: “There’s not nearly as much excitement now that I’m not riding bulls anymore. I did get a new fishing boat. I’ve been spending as much time as possible on the water. I’m not a professional fisherman, but that’s okay.”
Jenny: “That sounds like a lot of fun. Has anyone really surprised you lately?”
Cody: “You know, there’s this neighbor of mine, my best friend’s cousin Kayla. I She was a year ahead of me in school, and a full-on beauty queen, so we traveled in different circles. When I was recovering from my injury, she brought a group of my friends to visit me. I’ve been thinking about her quite a bit since then. Now, she’s going through some really tough stuff in her own life. I admire how brave she is through it all. There’s a lot more under that tiara than you might think.”
Jenny: “You’ve both had more on your plate than most teenagers. What is the biggest challenge you face right now?”
Cody: “Just proving that I can do things on my own. Since my accident, I’ve learned so much, and I’m always trying new things in new ways. After being such a big help to me for so long, my parents are having a hard time letting go. It’s time for me to take the next big step on my own. Problem is, I’m not sure what that step should be.”
Jenny: “I have a feeling you will figure it out. To change the subject, let’s talk for a minute about your favorites.”
J: Food
C: Bacon. Pretty much anything with bacon, but especially BLT sandwiches. Nothing is better in the summertime. Oh, except maybe a good watermelon.
J: Quote or scripture
C: “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.” That’s Philippians 4:13, right?
J: Sound
C: Silence. I know that sounds crazy. When I was riding bulls, there was so much noise. Loud music, people shouting. Now, I love sitting in a boat listening to nothing. Except a few birds singing and the waves rippling against the shore. Yeah. Peace and quiet. That’s the best.
J: View
Sunrises and sunsets, especially on the water.
Jenny: “You’re right. Those last two answers are a bit surprising. I’m glad you came by so that we can get to know you better. Do you have any parting words for our readers?”
Cody: “Never give up. There will always be obstacles in your way. Don’t get distracted by the scary possibilities. Concentrate on whatever’s in front of you, one thing at a time. Let God direct your steps.”
