This beautiful picture was taken by one of my favorite author friends, Cynthia Ruchti on a recent trip she took to Europe. My imagination runs wild as I think of the stories that might take place inside and outside of the great doorway. Before the days of cyber security, sturdy walls and huge massive doors provided protection, and a definitive passage from one place to another. From the safety of the inside, to the unknown that might dwell on the outside.
In our lives, we may encounter many such doorways. Leaving something safe and familiar for the unknown is never easy. But, Jesus reassures us that He will be there. The Gospel of John relates Jesus comparing Himself to the shepherd that cares for the sheep. He says that He is the door, the way to safety. In Chapter 10, verse 7-9 Jesus says “I am the door of the sheep. All that came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
As we begin each new adventure, we can feel confident, as long as we seek God’s will, and enter through Jesus, our Door. He is our shepherd, and we recognize His voice. We can enter and leave with confidence, finding pasture with Him.
