In the spring of each year, Christians celebrate the fulfillment of God’s plan for salvation for us, the creation He loves. But to understand the fulfillment, we should look back to see how He was guiding and preparing His people from the very beginning, back to the days when Moses was leading the people of Israel out of Egyptian captivity to the new promised land.
In Deuteronomy, chapter 8, Moses reminds the Israelites of the journey they have taken, and commands them to remember how God cared for them in the wilderness, and how the forty years that they wandered was part of God’s plan. “And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 8: 2-3 NKJV.
The building in this picture has been a gathering place in the area for a very long time. It has been moved from it’s original location to a historic State Park at Washington, Arkansas. Famous adventurers like Sam Houston, Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie relaxed and recharged here on their way to Texas for their historic destinies. The redbud tree came along much later, but it has also stood in this spot for many years, enduring long, hot summers and cold, dreary winters before displaying it’s annual beauty in the springtime.
My husband and I stopped here on a very important day in our lives. We were on our way home after receiving Covid vaccinations. The beauty of our surroundings emphasized a very important truth for me. God always keeps his promises.
No matter what hardships come our way, God brings springtime each year. His mercy is new every morning. Lamentations 3:23.
As we emerge from a year of fear and uncertainty, it helps to remember that God is in control. He uses the hardships to test and prove us. He has promised to never leave us. We can count on that truth, no matter what.
