Once a year, 40,000 of my closest friends gather for a common purpose. Yes, there is a race involved. But the important thing on this day is to eradicate a terrible disease that has affected far too many of our lives. I always think of Hebrews 12:1 on days like this. “Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” KJV.
For the participants in this race, only those at the very front of this crowd can do any running. The rest are just enjoying the day, The cloud of witnesses encourages each other, but face it, some actually get in the way of our journey. We quickly learn how to accept the encouragement given, and politely move past, so that we can find a spot to walk at our own pace.
Life is full of journeys. We encounter people who have been on a similar road. They will have advice for us. We should listen, evaluate carefully. Some of this advice will be very helpful. Some will not quite fit the journey we are on. The key to completing the task? Find your own way, with God as the only witness who matters. He will always be there, up ahead, as our ultimate goal. Run with patience.
