An early motivator of Christians, the apostle Paul, recognized that he had competition in reaching the hearts and minds of his audience. So many were preaching, and some had questionable motives. In his letter to the Philippians, he gives this advice: “But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” Philippians 1:18 NIV. This both adds and relieves pressure in our study of God’s word. Of course, we need to go to the scriptures to back up what we hear. False teaching is so damaging, and in other scriptures, Paul condemns it strongly. But if the message is biblical, we can let God be the judge of the one who delivers it. This week, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 NKJV
