The traditional pictures have started. Kids on the front steps, holding chalkboards. Many smiling faces, and a few stubborn grimaces. Milestones shared and preserved for the future.
At our house, the only school supplies purchased were donated. We didn’t have to shop for new tennis shoes or a larger size of blue jeans. Our schedule didn’t change much, except for allowing a little extra time for the morning commute.
It’s a season of adjustment. The pics I picked for this post show two of our very excited grands on their first day. One, his first ever first day, as he starts Pre-K. The other, his last first day, as he looks forward to all the excitement of being a member of the high school class of 2020. We are beyond blessed. Between these two, we have one in eighth, sixth and fourth grade. And following them, there are three younger ones still at home.
For Granny, it’s a time of adjustment as well. These eager students live in three different states. The closest two are about 45 minutes away from us. So, no more sitting in drop-off or pick-up lines. No more packing school lunches and making sure hair is combed and shoes and socks match. No more after supper homework marathons. A mixed blessing.
We rejoice from a distance these days. But, we share in the pride as they begin new chapters. God is good, and He is with them every step of the way.
