No, this is not my house. I took this picture on a trip to New Orleans a couple of football seasons ago, when my husband and I traveled there to watch our favorite team play their city’s Saints. After this past weekend, full of friends and family, and seemingly normal activity, I thought of how just continuing our normal activities, just “holding fast” can be a testimony, a beacon, to others about the path we have chosen in life. Though I don’t know the exact history of this house, I feel safe in saying it is well over one hundred years old. It has survived, and stood strong, through all sorts of battles and calamities. Perhaps improved, but largely unchanged.
A very popular verse in the Bible speaks to choosing your course, and staying with it. “And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whole land ye dwell: but as for me an my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15, KJV
If you have previously chosen poorly. you can change course. Our Father is the God of second chances. Choose you THIS day. And stand fast. And lead the rest of your house to do the same.
