I love this holiday. Thanksgiving is uniquely American, and each family has special ways of celebrating. These days, one custom is to spend the month of November listing one’s blessings and sharing them on social media. Here’s where I differ just a little with those who say they get tired of the overdose of sweetness and light. They say, no-one’s life can be that good all the time.
I suppose there’s a chance it can be overdone. From my viewpoint, I wouldn’t want to be seen as a braggart. I certainly wouldn’t want to be accused of a “Na-na-na-na, my life’s better than yours” attitude.
But, here’s my take on this whole thing. All of us have trouble and disappointments in our life. We could spend all day listing the terrible things that are happening around us. But, why not spend an equal amount of time appreciating the good things? When I start making that list, it just grown and grows, and I actually get embarrassed by the joy in my life.
The whole purpose of this day is to recognize the source of our blessings. Our Heavenly Father has a plan for our lives, and if we will get out of his way, he will bless us richly. He can even use the difficult times to teach and prepare us for what comes next.
So be thankful! And share your happiness with others!
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow.
